Jalin is a Malay word for “intertwine”.
The Covid-19 pandemic has forced most of our daily routines to be migrated online, which also increased our Internet usability and online presences. During this situation that is full of limitations and uncertainties, we are always seeking alternative ways to connect with the people we love, especially family and friends. At the same time, this has also opened up more opportunities in reaching out to wider networks. We are now able to meet up with new friends from different regions without having to meet them physically.
Nevertheless, this borderless world may also be a double-edged sword. There is always the need to overcome some kind of resistance. In this case, the fear and uncertainties may concern security, fake news and conspiracy theories that would continue to exist in our society.
All this was visualized through this piece where it morphs from black and white into vibrant colors towards the end which reflects the theme of the open call "Spectrum Optica".
